hi bob, thanks for this blog page. I am reading it after having needed this info a day earlier. so just to clarify and confirm. I only had my C trumpet with me last night in an orchestra rehearsal. strange as I am a bebop jazzman. I figured out what you have described by trial and error. So, on a C trumpet I read the Alto trombone notes as if I was on a Bb reading a Tune out of a Concert realbook except that I maintained the key signature and did not raise it the required two sharps.

I am going to the the same with a Tenor clef trombone part just in reverse, down a whole step maintaining the key signature.

I will then give it all a go with my Bb except reading up or down a minor third. does this all sound right?

thanks again
I'm having a blast giving my jazz brain a classical workout!

any tips on reading bass clef on Bb trumpet?
